Government and IOM Discussed Progress on Implementation of the National Action Plan on Combating Human Trafficking for 2016-2018

Ashgabat, 31 August 2018: The Round Table “Review on the Progress of the National Action Plan of Turkmenistan on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings 2016-2018” was organized by the Mission of International Organization for Migration in Turkmenistan (IOM) in close cooperation with the Government of Turkmenistan and supported by the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, U.S. Department of State. During the event, the report on the progress of the implementation of the National Action Plan of Turkmenistan on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings for 2016-2018 (NAP) was presented to the members of the Interministerial Commission on Treaty Bodies and International Humanitarian Law. »Read more...

IOM Turkmenistan continues to build law enforcement capacity on combating human trafficking through the provision of trainings

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, August 7, 2018. At the beginning of August, International Organization for Migration/UN Migration Agency (IOM) organized two back to back three day trainings on Identification and Protection of Victims of Trafficking (VoTs), Considering the Psychological Needs of VoTs and the Human Rights of Victims. The first training for prosecutors and representatives of law enforcement agencies has been organized in Mary and the second training of trainers (ToT) for teachers of high military institutes and high educational establishments of law enforcement agencies has been organized in Ashgabat within the IOM Combating Human Trafficking Project, funded by US Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). »Read more...

IOM: Most Victims Trafficked Internationally Cross Official Border Points

Activity update brief: A Pool of Trainers on Investigation, Prosecution and Adjudication of Trafficking Cases Established

On June 5-8, 2018, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) — the UN Migration Agency in Turkmenistan organized a four-day training of trainers on “Multidisciplinary and Multisectoral Approach to Investigation, Prosecution and Adjudication of Trafficking Cases” in Mary, Mary velayat (region). The training of trainers (ToT) was organized for representatives of law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, judges and advocates of Mary, Lebap and Akhal velayats within the framework of the three-year project on “Strengthening the National Action Plan on Trafficking in Persons in Turkmenistan to ensure coordinated assistance and a victimcentered approach”, funded by the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, U.S. Department of State, launched in October 2015. This activity was the last out of three ToT conducted within the frame of the project and aimed to contribute to the consolidation of institutional capacities at the local level, through establishing a pool of trainers/experts. »Read more...
