IOM Worldwide Organisational Structure

To carry out its work, IOM is organized as follows:


IOM headquarters is located in Geneva, Switzerland. It provides support services throughout the Organization and houses the following offices:

Administrative Centres

The Manila Administrative Centre (MAC) in the Philippines serves as an information and administrative support centre for the Organization’s activities.

  • Website, Intranet and digital Assets Management
  • Central Support Unit (CSU)
  • Manila Accounting Services
  • Manila Budget Services
  • Manila Human Resources Operations
  • Staff Security Unit

Similarly, more and more functions within Accounting, Budget, Facilitated Migration, Human Resources, Information Technology, Migration Health, Movement Management, Publications and Treasury have been fully transferred tMAC.

The Panama Administrative Centre (PAC) in the City of Knowledge, Panama City, Panama provides information technology and administrative support toffices in the western hemisphere and some global support services.

Missions with Regional Functions (MRFs)

The MRFs provide administrative, financial, liaison and programme development support in a regional context and within regional consultative processes tField Offices under their responsibility.

To date, there are 18 field offices designated as MRFs:

  • Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • Cairo, Egypt
  • Canberra, Australia
  • Dakar, Senegal
  • Dhaka, Bangladesh
  • Helsinki, Finland

  • Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Lima, Peru
  • Manila, Philippines
  • Nairobi, Kenya
  • Pretoria, South Africa
  • Rome, Italy
  • San José, Costa Rica
  • Washington, D.C., United States

Special Liaison Missions (SLMs)

The SLMs provide regular liaison with governments, United Nations offices, other intergovernmental partners and relevant interlocutors in the non-governmental and private sectors on a broad range of issues related specifically tIOM’s work in migration management.

To date, the following seven offices are designated as SLMs:

  • Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — tthe African Union
  • Berlin, Germany
  • London, United Kingdom
  • New York, United States — as Permanent Observer tthe United Nations
  • Paris, France
  • Tokyo, Japan
  • Vienna, Austria — tthe United Nations and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)

Country Missions

IOM has a global network of Country Missions and suboffices which implement a wide range of projects addressing specific migration needs. These Missions are financed predominantly by the projects implemented in those locations.
